About this Journey
Shanghai is an economic powerhouse that has undergone a huge transformation from backwater fishing village to major commercial center. Along the way, foreign nations established concessions in the city, gangsters roamed the streets, and the rich indulged their every whim amidst the opulent decadence of the ‘Paris of the East’. Shanghai retains remnants of its rich past in the form of the French Concession and the graceful colonial buildings along the Bund. Nearby these nostalgic buildings evocative of Old Shanghai are the iconic, towering skyscrapers of Pudong. Explore both new and old Shanghai on this journey through China’s biggest city.

Itinerary
Day 1
Spend the day at your leisure • Recommended: stroll alongside the Huangpu River on the Bund, taking in Shanghai’s iconic skyline.

Day 2
Experience a snapshot of local life by walking around Fuxing Park, a meeting spot for fitness dancers and taichi enthusiasts • Travel back to Shanghai’s stylish 1930s as you stroll through the tree-lined avenues of the French Concession • Explore modern art studios in the trendy, bohemian area of Tianzifang • Visit the Shanghai Museum, a veritable treasure trove of Chinese artifacts • Enjoy VIP seating at an ERA Acrobatics Performance that fuses Chinese acrobatics with modern technology.

Day 3 - 4
Explore the old watertown of Tongli, known as the ‘Venice of the East’ for the canals that wind their way between the town’s Ming and Qing era buildings • Spend the rest of the day in Shanghai at your leisure • Recommended: visit Yu Garden, the most celebrated classical garden in Shanghai, or enjoy a cup of tea in one of Pudong’s signature skyscrapers.
